HS2 Main Works Lots S1 and S2

Location

Euston to Old Oak Common

Location

Euston to Old Oak Common

We were appointed by SCS Railways (a joint venture of Skanska, Costain, and STRABAG) on behalf of HS2 to manage the import of all primary and recycled aggregates for the Central area. HS2 is a state-of-the-art, high-speed rail line crucial for the UK’s low-carbon transport future. Upon completion, it will provide much-needed rail capacity across the country and support rail projects in the North and Midlands.

The Skanska, Costain, and STRABAG Joint Venture (SCS JV) is responsible for delivering the final 26.4 km of HS2’s route to its southern terminus at Euston. This involves complex works from Northolt to Euston via Old Oak Common, requiring expert precision and care.

Materials Supplied

With 95% (21 km) of the route being in a tunnel, SCS will operate seven tunnel boring machines (TBMs), five of which will run simultaneously. The Central section includes seven separate sites:

  • Canterbury Works Vent Shaft
  • Adelaide Road Vent Shaft
  • Willesden Euro Terminal
  • Westgate Delivery Area
  • Green Park Delivery Area
  • Atlas Road Logistics Tunnel
  • Victoria Road Crossover Box
    •

All recycled aggregates were manufactured to meet HS2’s Materials Conformance Regime (MCR) and produced under our Factory Production Control in line with our Quality Protocol. The total requirement for recycled aggregates in the Central Area was 55,000 tonnes.
